“Thank You for the Music” – Sad News of Our Bandmaster Tony Martin

As you may have seen on our Facebook page (click here) and the Suffolk Free Press on October 19th, we are devastated to announce that our Bandmaster of almost fifteen years, Tony Martin, sadly passed away on Friday 13th October.

Tony joined Long Melford Silver Band in 2002.  A year later he became the Bandmaster and continued to conduct the band until his passing.

Tony has always been keen to bring on new talent and in recent years has been developing our training band, teaching a group of youngsters to play brass instruments.  This has been recognised by several of the children passing graded exams by the Royal School of Music, which would not have been possible without Tony.

Tony rarely missed a rehearsal, showing his true commitment to the band; it was a huge part of his life.
He would always have a smile on his face especially at concerts when cracking jokes, which came to become a tradition at any concert we played!

Many memories have been made with Tony during his time at Long Melford and these will never be forgotten.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Tony’s wife and family.

Tony’s funeral will be on Wednesday 25th October at Colchester Crematorium at 11.45am.

Donations in Tony’s memory are for The Mary Barron Suite, Colchester Hospital and can be made through Hunnaball of SudburyNew House, 62a North Street, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 1RE.

Our greatest tribute to Tony will be to play on and to continue his legacy of teaching, sharing and enjoying music together.
